I’ve got another Addon Showcase for you folks and this time it’s all about the buffs and debuffs. One of my original issue with the default UI was all the different buffs and debuffs in the game showing up on every single frame. It got quite rediculous. Especially when you have a career that applies a DOT that you want to make sure you keep up. Much like my old custom WOW UI, I liked using bars instead of icons. You have a good visual of how your debuff and buffs are doing as far as time. At first we had Zbuffbars which were slightly buggy and the author didn’t feel like supporting the addon and was acting like a child. So now we have DuffTimer. I used it last night, it’s simple, light and works exactly the way I wanted it to.

As previously mentioned, Mark Jacobs was busy today over at F13.net and they were having a pretty lively discussion about the T3-T4 experience grind that slows the game down. I’ve already written my opinion on it a few times so no need to rehash it, but Mark Jacobs seems to agree to a certain extent but they are moving slowly on it. Right now they are slowly tweaking it, but he mentions he can’t move fast because of the fear of nerfing it later on. He does have one interesting quote:

Recently GamesIndustry.biz had a few words with Mark Jacobs. Apparently Mark Jacobs is flattered by Warcraft’s imitation of Warhammer’s PVP systems.

“Oh absolutely,” responded Jacobs, when asked if this was a move by Blizzard to position World of Warcraft against Warhammer Online. “I think imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” … I think it was Jeff Kaplan who said they like to look at other games and learn from them - well, I’m flattered.”

I think this is highly comical. If you’ve been following Mark’s posting sprees at F13.net and WarhammerAlliance you will already know he’s being attacking Kaplan, a Lead Word of Warcraft designer, from some of his statements in a MTV game blog. This latest statement seems like it’s less about being flattered but more on taking one more dig at Kaplan.

Hilarity will ensue.

However it has already been shown that WOW will look at the ability to queue for Battlegrounds at any point in the game world and also giving experience from killing other players. Can’t argue with that, it’s a great idea and one I’ve touted here several times.

In my efforts to combat spammers from registering on the forums I goofed up the registration image verification. This should now be resolved, if anyone has any further problems please just post a comment here.

The official state of the game was released today by Mark Jacobs. Few things we can take from it that excite me.

The game has been released for one month. Lets do a little overview of what we’ve seen. Recently Patch 1.03 has been released offering supposed fixes and a huge Renown Nerf for healers. That’s been a hotly discussed debate. I’ve got a few random thoughts I wouldn’t mind getting off my chest.

You know, Mythic is doing a very good job meeting the demands of the community in pretty good fashion. Last week they increased experience in RVR lakes and in quests, and today this. I was getting ready to write about the futility of the open world. What we’re seeing right now is everyone in Tier 3 is running Scenario after Scenario and ignoring public quests and RvR lakes. It doesn’t take much to realize that the best renown and experience per hour gain are in Scenarios. If Mythic wants their game world to be utilized and not just a string of Scenario running they need to give people the incentive to get out of Scenarios.

UPDATE:
Apparently people are reporting that taking a Tier 3 keep at Rank 31 is yielding ~2000 experience and a Rank 27 is gaining 3400 experience. Uhm… I’m scratching my head here. What are you doing Mythic? If this is the case why bother? I can run a Scenario and beat it in 10 minutes and gain ~11,000 experience as a Warrior Priest, 6000 experience from two quests and this isn’t counting all experience gained from killing PCs.

It’s baffling really.

Ever use Titanbar or fubar while playing Warcraft? Now Warhammer has it’s own version called WaaaghBar. It’s a thin bar that run across your screen and gives you all the information you could want, EXP, RP, Money, Time etc. I installed this as soon as I found out about it.

Addon: WaaaghBar (Link)
Author: Shakakaw
